What I am about to tell you will expose such a fascinating series of events that one can only conclude that it cannot possibly be the result of coincidence but of an intentional cover up perpetrated by the City of New York and Mayor Bloomberg himself!
I must caution you, if you have a weak heart, are pregnant or even thinking about having a weak heart or ever getting pregnant, continue to read this post at your own risk.
The events I am about to relay to you are 100% factual. No names have been changed to protect the innocent (or guilty!).
On June 18 I published this post: Why it’s time for Mayor Bloomberg to get NYC 311 on Twitter. At the time there were no results for “Bloomberg NYC 311 Twitter”. By June 25 I was the top (and only relevant) result.
On June 27 I sent an email to the Mayor’s office with a brief synopsis and a link to my post.

On June 29 Bloomberg announced NYC 311 would begin using Twitter @311nyc!
I wasn’t aware of the announcement or the Twitter presence until I received this email today:
Thank you very much for your kind words about NYC 311 and your suggestions were very insightful. Ironically, on June 29, 2009, during a press event, Mayor Bloomberg announced NYC 311 will be tweeting on twitter and also available on Skype. You can follow us at http://twitter.com/311nyc. If you have any other feedback, feel free to contact us again.
Ironically?! Apparently brazen idea theft is ironic to the City of New York.
So not only did Bloomberg completely jack my idea, the person who sent me this email totally used “ironically” in the wrong context. Or did they?

What might have been expected to happen was for someone at the Bloomberg administration to give me credit. What actually happened was that they didn’t. This email response was obviously written by someone who is subtly trying to tell me they feel my pain.
I admit this could all be a fantastic series of coincidences but the timing of it all does seem a bit odd. Come on Mr. Mayor, you’re up for re-election, would it hurt you to give me some props?
In an even stranger turn of events I actually saw Mayor Bloomberg on 14th St. this morning. Luckily for him I hadn’t received the “ironic” email yet or I would have taken him to task personally and/or been Tased by his massive security agents positioned all around the block.
