First and foremost, Joe isn’t even a plumber, at least not a licensed one.

An official at Local 50 of the plumber’s union, based in Toledo, said Mr. Wurzelbacher does not hold a license. He also has never served an apprenticeship and does not belong to the union. (The national plumber’s union, the United Association of Plumbers, Steamfitters, and Service Mechanics, endorsed Mr. Obama, it should be noted.)

“All contractors are licensed, and he does not have a license, either as a contractor or a plumber,” the union official said, citing a search of government records. “I can’t find that he’s ever even applied for any kind of apprenticeship, and he has never belonged to local 189 in Columbus, which is what he claims on his Facebook page.”

For anyone that’s ever dealt with an unlicensed contractor not much explanation is necessary to realize how much trouble you could be looking for by dealing with someone who’s made it their business to stay out of the regulating committee of their chosen profession.  No rules to abide by and no authority to complain to when you feel you’ve been wronged.

Oh, and according to public records, Joe has been subject to two liens, each over $1,000, one of which — a personal tax lien — is still outstanding.  Maybe Joe should worry about paying his back taxes before he starts hypothesizing on whether or not he’ll be able to afford a tax increase on a $250,000 business.

Mr. Wurzelbacher says that he is planning to buy a plumbing business that has profits of between $250,000 and $280,000 a year.

While this income would put Mr. Wurzelbacher above the threshold where he could expect to pay higher taxes under Senator Obama’s tax plan, the increase in his tax bill would be relatively modest. Under Senator Obama’s plan, the tax on income above $250,000 would increase by 3 percentage points from 33 percent to 36 percent. This means that Mr. Wurzelbacher could expect to see his tax bill rise by between $0-$900, assuming that this plumbing business would be his entire taxable income. If he has additional taxable income, then he would see a larger increase in his taxes.

Of course reporters have never bothered to point this out to our newly famous Joe, even as the pound the pavement to try and be the first to snap up an interview with him before his 15 minutes finally ticks away.  Or maybe they could somehow grow a set and ask McCain to his face what he thinks about all this new found information.  I’m sure either of those scenarios is just wishful thinking.
